Editor's Review
Ruaka Falls offers a scenic, tranquil escape tucked away in Kiambu, providing a lush green sanctuary from Nairobi's bustling noise. However, access is frequently gated by management requirements, such as mandatory restaurant orders or steep, arbitrary photography charges, making it essential to clarify expectations before making the trek.
If the entry conditions feel too restrictive, consider visiting the Karura Forest nearby, which offers more predictable entry fees, well-marked walking trails, and a similarly serene waterfall experience without the pressure of mandatory dining.
The Cost: There is no standardized entry fee; expect to pay for a meal at the on-site restaurant to gain access. Professional photography sessions are often quoted at up to KSH 10,000, though casual visitors may negotiate depending on the day's management presence.
The Experience: The site is best enjoyed as a place for relaxation rather than a rigorous hike. The terrain around the waterfall is largely natural, consisting of grass and uneven ground, so leave the formal footwear behind and be prepared for a short, leisurely walk down to the water's edge.
What you can see: You can see a beautiful, serene waterfall, well-maintained gardens, and pockets of lush greenery perfect for quiet reflection or low-impact outdoor activities.
Final Verdict: While Ruaka Falls is undeniably beautiful and peaceful, the inconsistent management policies regarding entry and photography can be a major frustration. It is a lovely spot for a quiet afternoon, provided you go with clear expectations about the potential costs involved.

This place may be scenically beautiful, but unfortunately, the owners are crooks. When we arrived there to visit the waterfall, we were told we had to order food at the restaurant first, otherwise we wouldn't be allowed to visit the waterfall. They also wanted us to pay 10,000 Ksh for photos. So we decided not to visit and instead visited the Railway Museum and the Giraffe Center.

Very beautiful garden & waterfall. Super peaceful. Loved it. Short stay, but worth it. Cons - very hard to find. Photography restrictions but I took photos anyway.
