Karura Forest – Sigiria is one of those places that makes you forget you’re in Nairobi… until you come back out and see traffic again. Having a full forest smack in the middle of the city is already impressive, but being able to run a proper trail loop inside it? Even better. We followed the blue loop (10 km) for a trail run, and honestly, it’s fantastic. The path is well-marked, which is always reassuring — nothing like the fear of accidentally adding a bonus 7 km detour to spice up your morning. The first part overlaps with the yellow 5 km loop, so it’s a bit more crowded — the warm-up lap with civilization. But once you split off, it becomes a proper single track: quieter, more scenic, and blessedly empty of humans. The only “locals” you encounter are monkeys, butterflies, and the occasional waterfall, all of whom seem far less stressed than Nairobi residents. The trail itself has good technical variety — enough roots, rocks, and twists to keep you awake, but not so brutal that you need a physiotherapist on speed dial afterward. All in all? A very nice track, fun to run, and easy to recommend. :)

Came in through Gate C on Kiambu road. The staff was friendly and the parking space was adequate. The trails were well marked. Overall a very tranquil place.

Compared to the Limuru Gate entrance, this location offers a much more serene and quiet experience. The area is less busy with minimal traffic in and out of the forest, making it safer and more relaxing. It is family-friendly, with fewer cyclists, and also pet-friendly provided dogs are kept on a leash. Additionally, the presence of horse trails adds a unique touch to the experience.

I love how peaceful Karura Forest is! The soldiers at the gate are friendly and welcoming such a wonderful experience to have in my own country. It feels very safe; I enjoyed a lovely walk with my friend and later relaxed while reading a book. My only wish is that the foreigners’ entry fee wasn’t so high, as lowering it could encourage more visitors and boost our economy. Other than that, I absolutely love Karura any day!

Karura Forest Sigiria Gate is less crowded than the main entrances, making it perfect for a quiet walk or run. It’s conveniently located next to a nice café and playgrounds, so you can relax with a coffee while the kids play. A great little escape in the city!
