Editor's Review
Jannat House serves as a quintessential budget oasis nestled deep within the historic, winding alleys of Lamu Old Town. While the architecture is stunningly traditional, travelers should be prepared for a rustic experience; the location is difficult to navigate alone, so always coordinate with the host for a jetty pickup upon arrival to navigate the maze-like streets safely.
For a low-cost cultural excursion, spend your time wandering the nearby Lamu Museum or simply walk the waterfront promenade to watch the dhows sail in at sunset, which costs absolutely nothing and offers the best local atmosphere.
The Cost: Accommodations are highly affordable, catering specifically to budget travelers. Expect to pay modest rates for basic rooms, with food prices for items like fresh fish and fries being very reasonable compared to larger resorts.
The Experience: Staying here is an immersive, physical experience. You will navigate unpaved, narrow, and sometimes dusty stone paths to reach the house. The interior features multiple floors and staircases, so it is best suited for those who enjoy a walkable, stair-heavy, and authentic Swahili lifestyle.
What you can get: You can enjoy a filling traditional breakfast, fresh fish cooked to order, delicious french fries, and a variety of drinks at the open-air rooftop bar. The property features a small but refreshing plunge pool and high-quality mosquito nets for comfort.
Overall, Jannat House is a charming, no-frills destination that prioritizes local culture and community over luxury. If you manage your expectations regarding the basic amenities and embrace the noise of the town, it provides a warm, authentic, and wallet-friendly base for exploring the magic of Lamu.

This place Is quite a nice place. It is good for budget travellers . It's quite inside lamu town and you would need someone to take you to the resident as it's a bit hard to find. It's clean and we'll kept . Carol is very helpful and she makes sure that the guest are well satisfied. The pool is a bit small but manageable. The breakfast is quite filling as well. The rooms are very basic so it's very good to manage your expectations in this place. The shower is cold which is refreshing during the hot hours. While outdoor place is quite limited it's manageable. The food is quite okay Especially their french fries were quite delicious. They have an open bar for people who need drink with number of variety. It's safe despite the locks being not your usual . I would recommend the place for anyone visiting lamu on budget . I would advise also to manage your expectations as well . But basically the host is great which is all that matters . The host ensures that someone picks you at the jetty and on time when you arrive . The food prices are manageable and not too pricy . The hotel ensures that there is sign that shows direction and hence it's difficult to get lost

The place itself is ok, the rooms are a bit basic but we had a massive problem when we wanted to shorten our stay. Reception told us it would be possible but then after we already booked another place, the owner changed their mind and refused to refund us although it was promised by reception. Recommendation to avoid this place unless you are absolutely sure you want to stay there!

Absolutely beautiful traditional Swahili house with really great staff! We really felt as part of the family there. The rooftops have a great fresh breeze and view. The rooms are very simple but good. The food is amazing there! The pool is amazing too. It's quiet at night and after a few minutes walk you are in the center and at the waterfront... Will love to come here again next time.

An amazing oasis in the old town of Lamu. 4 floors including a covered rooftop patio/bar. 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms for 9 persons including 3 children was more than enough. Service by 3 employees that come with the place was excellent, including cooking a fish we had caught earlier in the day. A bit scary to get to via narrow and dirty streets and quite noisy if you aren't used to roosters and early morning mosque chants. Bring a pair of earplugs if you plan to sleep past 5am.

Jannat House is a perfectly chill oasis in the middle of sleepy Lamu Town. The architecture is great, with many breezy hang-out spaces to lay back and enjoy a cold beer. The mosquito nets are good quality, and the rooms well ventilated. The vibe is definitely more backpacker than luxury resort, but that's a good thing!
