Editor's Review

Jahazi House is an ultra-exclusive private villa located on the serene coast of Lamu, offering an unparalleled escape from the bustle of city life. Because this is a private, fully-staffed property, it is not a public venue; access is strictly reserved for guests who have booked the villa, making it a destination that requires significant advance planning and budget allocation.

For those looking for a more accessible coastal experience nearby, consider visiting the public beaches of Shela Village where you can enjoy local dhow sailing excursions at a fraction of the cost while still soaking in the same stunning Indian Ocean views.

The Cost: Pricing is bespoke and based on full-villa occupancy, usually including the services of a private chef, boat captain, and house staff. Prospective guests should contact the management directly for seasonal rates as costs vary significantly between peak holiday periods and the low season.

The Experience: The villa offers a seamless blend of luxury and nature, with the terrain consisting of pristine, sandy beach frontage and lush, well-maintained garden paths. The movement here is relaxed, focused on swimming, kayaking, and boat-based exploration, though guests should be prepared for sandy walking conditions and boat-based transfers to reach local historical sites.

What you can get: Guests enjoy a fully catered gourmet menu featuring fresh Swahili-inspired seafood, private dolphin-spotting excursions, guided water sports like kayaking and skiing, and personalized in-house spa treatments.

Jahazi House is the gold standard for a private Kenyan coastal getaway. While it requires a significant financial commitment and pre-planned logistics, the combination of dedicated staff, gourmet dining, and total privacy makes it an unforgettable sanctuary for those who value intimacy and high-end service.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Jahazi House. We went as a 'girl tribe' and enjoyed the tranquility away from the buzzing city. We bonded,we goofed around and laughed hard..The staff (William, Kenga and Kazungu) were welcoming and affable. We loved watching the sunsets while seated at the jetty and captured beautiful silhouette pictures. Looking forward to visit again. Thank you and God bless. 22nd-25th May..❤️

I have never been to a place like this before - it feels like heaven on earth. We recently returned from a wonderful trip to Jahazi House: the house is stunning and the staff absolutely charming. Gaspard, Safari, Ali and Zohra made our holiday unforgettable and relaxing for the entire family. The house has a direct access to the beach and offers a very nice private pool. The owner also proposes a multitude of activities (water skiing, snorkeling, cycling, kayaking, massages...). Looking forward to our next trip to visit again.

Set on the most picturesque beach, you instantly feel like you are in a paradise haven. With easy access to all the sites through the private boat and Ali the boat driver - we saw everything we could have possibly wanted (including swimming with Dolphins). Gaspar and Safari crafted the most amazing, mouth-watering menu. The whole experience was beyond anything we could have expected and even though I don't want to share this incredible secret get-away with the world, I feel I must just in order to pay hommage to Eric, the staff and the superb experience they provided us with.

As we move deeper into 2026, the definition of travel is evolving. No longer content with superficial sightings, the modern traveler seeks depth, purpose, and local engagement. This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
