Editor's Review

Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club is an expansive, Victorian-inspired sanctuary nestled in the lush, chilly hills of Kiambu. While it offers a slice of 5-star colonial-style luxury, visitors should be aware that the property is aging and the infrastructure—particularly the guest rooms—does not always match the premium price point advertised.

For those looking for a more budget-friendly way to enjoy the grounds without the high cost of a hotel stay or a full round of golf, consider visiting for a mid-week afternoon coffee or a drink at the bar to soak in the manicured gardens and tranquil dam views at a fraction of the cost.

The Cost: Golf rounds vary significantly based on residency status and weekday versus weekend play, typically ranging from KSH 3,500 to KSH 6,000. Dining is upscale, with main courses averaging between KSH 2,000 and KSH 3,500 per person.

The Experience: Visiting the Windsor feels like stepping into a private, green estate. The terrain is largely paved around the main hotel buildings, making it stroller-friendly, though the golf course itself requires significant walking on well-maintained but hilly fairways. It is a place designed for leisure, strolling, and slow-paced relaxation rather than high-intensity activity.

What you can get: You can expect an 18-hole championship golf course, a large outdoor swimming pool, two distinct restaurants serving high-quality cuisine, and beautiful, expansive gardens that are frequently used for weddings and corporate events.

Ultimately, the Windsor remains a picturesque venue that excels in atmosphere and service, provided you manage your expectations regarding the room maintenance. It is a premier spot for those prioritizing a peaceful, scenic environment over modern facility upgrades.

Explorer Ken's Advice

"Grab a table on the terrace overlooking the dam during the late afternoon; the light filtering through the trees is unmatched for photos."

One of the most picturesque views I have come across. Beautiful greens with small villas peppered along a number of golf holes. Beautiful dam and all around peaceful views

It's one of the best places to spend your day. Ambience is 10/10 waiter's and waitresses are very friendly. The Golf course is is good shape especially the fairways are good. The greens need to be worked on seriously. Foods and Drinks are Really good 10/10.

So much unrealized potential! Lovely spot, but it hasn't seen maintenance since it was built. Beds like camping mats, everything just so worn out. Staff try really hard, but just haven't had the training. Still worth a stay, but don't expect the 5 stars advertised.

Sitting in the heart of leafy suburbs of nairobi, pretty close to the northern by pass....ladies and gentlemen all hail one of the greatest 5* hotels we have around with an 18 hole golf course meeting the global standards, the 73 par greens are well trimmed and the chilly weather occasional by the trees surrounding the place make the holden sun rays cracking through the clouds such a welcome reprieve for both golfers and guests frequenting the place which has now become synonymous for corporate to private events ranging from conferences to weddings

Everything You Need to Know About Discovering Kenya

As we move deeper into 2026, the definition of travel is evolving. No longer content with superficial sightings, the modern traveler seeks depth, purpose, and local engagement. This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

  • Sustainable & Carbon-Neutral Stays

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
