Editor's Review

Wild Birding offers premium, tailor-made safari and bird-watching expeditions across Kenya and Uganda. These are not walk-in attractions but professional, guided tour services that require advance booking. Whether you are looking for a day trip within Nairobi National Park or an extended multi-country safari, the logistics are handled entirely by the team, including professional drivers, expert guides, and high-standard lodge accommodations.

For those looking for a budget-friendly way to enjoy similar wildlife experiences near Nairobi, the Nairobi Safari Walk located at the main gate of the National Park offers an affordable, pedestrian-friendly boardwalk experience where you can view indigenous animals on foot for a fraction of the cost of a full-day game drive.

The Cost: Pricing is bespoke and entirely dependent on your itinerary. Expect to pay premium rates for multi-day private safaris that include luxury lodges like Hemingway’s or Salt Lick, while half-day Nairobi birding tours start at competitive market rates for private guided services. Always request a comprehensive quote that breaks down park entry fees, which differ for Citizens, Residents, and Non-residents.

The Experience: Visiting with Wild Birding feels like an exclusive, well-oiled operation. You will spend much of your time in a 4x4 safari vehicle, navigating the unpaved, rugged terrain of national parks and conservancies. The pace is tailored to your interest level, allowing for slow, methodical bird spotting or focused tracking of the Big Five, depending on your preference.

What you can see: You can expect a deep dive into Kenya’s biodiversity, ranging from iconic wildlife like lions, cheetahs, and rhinos to specialized birdlife such as lilac-breasted rollers, hammerkops, and woodland kingfishers. The guides provide rich historical and environmental context, turning a simple drive into an educational journey through diverse ecosystems.

Wild Birding is the gold standard for travelers who prioritize expertise and comfort. While the customized nature of these tours requires a higher budget, the seamless organization, knowledgeable staff, and unforgettable wildlife sightings make it an exceptional investment for serious nature lovers.

Things to Consider

Remote safari locations often have challenging road conditions that can limit travel distances, so plan for shorter local excursions during the rainy season.

Firstly thanks to you Sam for helping us organise our wonderful Uganda and Kenya trip. It all went pretty much to plan and the experiences we had will live with us for the rest of our lives. From start to finish we were looked after extremely well. The drivers/guides were marvellous, not just in their knowledge, advice and driving skill but also with theirwonderful sense of humour. We felt perfectly safe and at ease throughout the whole trip. There was a break in continuity with our Uganda guides which was a little disconcerting but Steven took over from Arshley quite seamlessly in the end. The Uganda element went very well overall. Unfortunately the roads around Bwindi were such that our birding remained local as the loger trips were not feasible and perhaps the drive from Mahogany Springs to Lake Mburu was a little ambitious so we could not get to the Lake for our planned boat trip which was the only disappointment. Both our guides there were extremely knowledgable and were very patient with our endless questions. The lodges we stayed at were of a high standard throughout with a few being really exceptional i.e. Primate Lodge, Mweya, Mahogany Springs in Uganda and Rnndo Retreat, Salt lick, Amboselli and Hemingway in Kenya. The staff at the lodges were very attentive, Mary in Primate Lodge in particular was simply brilliant and couldn't do enough for us, The Kenya birding trip was also equally enjoyable with the local guides enhancing our experience with their local knowledge. Our driver Paul was simply exceptional and we felt safe and comfortable throughout. We were also continually entertained by his conversation and sense of humour. We will be recommending your services to our friends and family and we wish you all the success in the future. All the very best Andy & Nora

Our safari with Wild Birding in Kenya was nothing short of extraordinary. I travelled with my wife and two sisters-in-law, and we all had the absolute best time. Sam organised everything flawlessly, from our stay at Lake Naivasha to the Mara North Conservancy in the Masai Mara. The lodges were stunning, and in the Mara our porch even overlooked a watering hole where zebras regularly came to drink, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! We managed to see all of Africa’s iconic wildlife, lions, hippos, cheetahs, crocodiles, as well as incredible birdlife like lilac-breasted rollers, hammerkops, and the woodland kingfisher. Every detail of the trip exceeded our expectations, and I couldn’t recommend Wild Birding more highly for anyone looking for an unforgettable safari and birding adventure.

I had a fabulous day birding with Wild Birding Tours in Nairobi National Park. We saw ninty-seven species over the corse of the day in multiple distinct habitats. In addition, we saw lion, cheetah, rhino and countless antelope and Cape Buffalo. It was a spectacular day.

Awesome tour! My guide, Sam, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and great at spotting and identifying birds, explaining different facets of the park and environment in the park and Kenya generally, and ensuring the tour was tailored to what I wanted. I did a half day tour (would have booked for longer but needed to get to the airport). We saw over 80 birds and many animals. They emailed me a list of all the birds and animals as well, so that I didn't have to record the types of birds as we went. The driver was great too. I had so much fun, and would 100% recommend Sustainable Birding Company to anyone interested in birding in Kenya.

Have done two tours with the SBC now and what amazing experience. Not only did we see the Big 5, a Lion kill and the famous Cheetah brothers, but our accommodation was outstanding and our guide was so knowledgeable and accommodating. We can't wait to go again.

This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
