Editor's Review
Waso Choma Zone is a bustling culinary landmark in the heart of Isiolo, renowned for its distinct Ethiopian-style grilled goat meat. Situated conveniently within the town center, it is easily accessible for anyone passing through the region, though travelers should be aware that while the dining experience is top-tier, the attached lodging facilities do not offer the best value for money in the area.
If you are looking for a more budget-friendly stay, consider dining at Waso for the meat but booking one of the many competitive guesthouses located within a short walking distance in Isiolo town to save significantly on your nightly rate.
The Cost: Meals are priced per weight and serving, with a typical satisfying nyama choma feast costing between KSH 800 and KSH 1,500 per person. Accommodation rates are premium; compare local rates before committing to an on-site room.
The Experience: The environment is vibrant and informal, characterized by a steady flow of locals and travelers. The facility features a comfortable, paved dining area that is easily navigable, focusing on a sit-down social dining experience rather than physical activity.
What you can get: You can get expertly prepared nyama choma that stands out for its unique Ethiopian-inspired seasoning, a lively atmosphere perfect for people-watching, and clean, reliable service throughout the day and into the late night.
Waso Choma Zone remains a must-visit for meat lovers in Isiolo. While you might want to look elsewhere for your bed for the night, the quality of the grilled goat and the energetic, authentic vibe make it an essential stop on any Northern Kenya road trip.

Explorer Ken's Advice
"Ask for the Ethiopian-style spice mix on the side if you prefer a bit more heat, as the standard kachumbari is served quite mild."
Things to Consider
The on-site accommodation is significantly overpriced compared to other high-quality lodging options available elsewhere in Isiolo.

The choma was good but not great. The presentation was great though. The ambience was great as well as the service. They have clean accommodation as well which is good for an all round experience.

Tasty and delicious food especially Nyama choma, though their kachumbari had no pilipili. When i asked one of the waiters she just smiled which was abit awkward 🤨

The place is among the best for grilled goat meat(nyama Choma) in Isiolo, made and presented in Ethiopian style. I think the owner has some roots in Ethiopia. The atmosphere was good and the place had clients coming in taking meat and accomplishments, leaving and many others joining in. The joint also has accomodation but I found it quite pricey compared to other better facilities within Isiolo. I would recommend anyone who loves nyama Choma to make sure they visit this place while in isiolo
