Editor's Review

Tayiana Gardens offers a lush, green sanctuary within Nairobi, perfect for those looking to host outdoor functions or enjoy a quiet picnic. While the landscape remains beautiful and serene, visitors should be aware that the infrastructure, particularly the bandas and shower facilities, has seen better days and may not be fully functional for all-day events.

For a more reliable outdoor experience nearby, consider the Nairobi Arboretum, which offers well-maintained walking trails and public amenities at a fraction of the cost, making it a fantastic alternative for a casual stroll or a budget-friendly picnic.

The Cost: Entry and booking fees are not fixed; you must contact management for current rates based on your event size. Expect to pay a premium for private space booking, and remember that you will need to cater for your own food as there are no consistent on-site dining services.

The Experience: Visiting Tayiana is a laid-back, low-energy affair focused on relaxation. The grounds feature grassy areas and flat terrain that are easy to walk on, though the paths can become muddy and difficult to navigate during the rainy season. It is essentially a "do-it-yourself" venue where the environment provides the charm, but you provide the comfort.

What you can get: You can enjoy expansive green lawns, a peaceful pond setting, a quiet atmosphere for private functions, and opportunities to watch local birdlife like ducks in a natural, open-air environment.

Verdict: Tayiana Gardens is a high-potential venue that shines for its natural beauty and privacy, but it currently requires guests to be highly self-sufficient regarding furniture and facilities until management upgrades the on-site amenities.

"Book the private spot next to the pond for a serene birthday picnic away from the main thoroughfare."

Heads Up

Things to Consider

Facilities like the bandas and washrooms are currently poorly maintained, so bring your own seating and plan for limited restroom access.

So for me, I was attending a birthday picnic. Lovely green surroundings. However, I’ve read reviews of this place from 5 years ago and it’s a contrast to how it looks now. Unfortunately, it rained and when presented with the options of the bandas, the bandas seemed to have no furniture that was usable. Some palettes were placed on one side, the washroom/shower section was unusable with one door seemingly locked permanently. We had to use a singular washroom on another side connected to an estate which was not clean. The walk to it was fine but not fine when it’s raining. The pool was drained out which was interesting given it’s been sunny this last month or so. Could’ve brought more people to use the facilities. The parking space was tiny and should be a bit bigger to accommodate more groups of people instead of struggling to park with other cars there. Honestly, management of the Gardens should really focus on the bandas and their facilities and making them usable moving forward. Shouldn’t have to “trek” to use a toilet.

I had a picnic here for my birthday and it was absolutely beautiful. The set up was superb, in a private spot next to the pond. It's a wonderful place to have a picnic but one has to carry food from outside.. I totally loved the place, it's serenity, cleanliness, safe parking and easy accessibility. It's a nice place to chill watch the sky and watch flying ducks. Would definitely recommend.

Being surrounded by so much nature and water brings a feeling of calmness. The green shrubs and grass make taking a stroll around the premises such a joy.

Its is a lovely quiet place to hold a function. Just need to control uninvited guest and workers from crashing private functions.

Everything You Need to Know About Discovering Kenya

As we move deeper into 2026, the definition of travel is evolving. No longer content with superficial sightings, the modern traveler seeks depth, purpose, and local engagement. This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
