Editor's Review
Spirit of the Masai Mara is an elite, all-inclusive sanctuary located just a ten-minute drive from the Sekenani Gate of the Masai Mara National Reserve. This property offers a sophisticated blend of modern luxury and raw wilderness, designed for travelers who prioritize privacy and comfort. Access is primarily by air or 4x4 vehicle, and because it is an unfenced property, guests are treated to an immersive wildlife experience right on their doorstep.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly way to experience the region, consider visiting the nearby community-run conservancies or opting for guided walking safaris just outside the main reserve boundaries, which provide a more affordable, ground-level perspective of the ecosystem compared to the all-inclusive lodge experience.
The Cost: Rates are premium and all-inclusive, typically ranging from $500 to over $1,200 per night depending on the season and residency status. This covers luxury accommodation, gourmet meals, and standard game drives. Always confirm if park entry fees for the Masai Mara National Reserve are included in your package or if they must be paid separately at the KWS gate.
The Experience: Visiting here is about refined relaxation and curated adventure. The terrain around the lodge is natural and rugged, featuring unpaved paths that require sturdy footwear for those exploring the vegetable gardens or short walking trails. The movement is largely sedentary and restorative, focused on game viewing from the infinity pool or your suite, punctuated by guided safari drives in 4x4 vehicles.
What you can get: You can expect world-class hospitality, including customized gourmet dining—notably the chef’s vegetarian quiche and fresh beef tartare—private sundowners with traditional Masai dancing, and unobstructed views of wildlife like wildebeests and zebras visiting the lodge's waterhole.
Spirit of the Masai Mara successfully balances the wild, untamed spirit of the savanna with high-end, thoughtful service. While it requires a significant financial investment and careful travel planning, the combination of architectural beauty, attentive staff, and constant wildlife proximity makes it a premier choice for those seeking an unforgettable, hassle-free luxury safari.

Explorer Ken's Advice
"Request a room with a view of the waterhole to watch wildlife congregate from the comfort of your private, glass-fronted suite."
Things to Consider
The location is remote and necessitates a 4x4 vehicle for access, especially during the rainy season when roads become challenging.

Incredible! This property is situated in an absolutely amazing place, filled with amazing people- in short, embodies the spirit of Masai Mara!! The Sekenani gate of the reserve is just a 10 minute drive away. The views are so good, one can't get enough of it. The suites are tastefully curated, and they have made sure everything is in congruity with the surroundings. The colors chosen and the materials used are a testament to this. As the property is unfenced, many animals roam around freely. The rooms are oriented in such a way that every suite gets a view of the waterhole, where animals come to drink water white often. They offer many activities, enough to keep one engaged even if not going on a game drive. Now the best part of the property- the people who run the show. Led by the dynamic Suzan, each and every single one of them makes sure we have a comfortable stay. You are always attended to, and they walk the extra mile to meet any additional demands/ requests. Mr. McCarthy, the owner, makes sure he has a word with every guest assuring them of a good time. The food is good, with the chef more than willing to customise things as requested. We chose this property over tens of others after many days of deliberation and that was probably the best decision of the trip! This place heals, go for it without hesitation!!

Absolutely delighted with our stay at this luxury lodge in Kenya! The amazing staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, even with our unusual schedule, always ensuring we were well taken care of. The food was a highlight; the beef tartare was surprisingly fresh and delicious, and the breakfast spread offered an impressive variety of options to start the day right. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and spacious, providing a perfect retreat after our adventures. A special thanks to Manager Moray, whose exceptional hospitality made our stay truly memorable. We will definitely be returning!

Amazing Stay at Spirit of Masai Mara We had an incredible experience at Spirit of Masai Mara. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and our little house with a glass front made us feel immersed in nature while still maintaining total privacy. The staff were attentive and welcoming, the food was fantastic, and the lodge is very family-friendly. Even without a safari, there’s plenty to do, from exploring the vegetable garden to short hikes. A perfect retreat for anyone looking to connect with nature in comfort and style!

Our stay was fantastic due to the super comfortable and aesthetic rooms, as well as the very hospitable and helpful staff. The vibe is very cozy yet intimate with nature. We even saw some wildebeests from our room amidst the lush green surroundings. Chef Moses made one of the best vegetarian quiches we have ever had, and he used local ingredients. He was very attentive to our dietary needs and we had some amazing picnic lunches in the Masai Mara thanks to that. We also really enjoyed the sundowner with the Masai dancing.
