Editor's Review

Olepolos Country Club is a well-known retreat located in the rugged terrain of Kajiado, offering a quintessential Kenyan 'nyama choma' experience set against a backdrop of sweeping, beautiful views. Visitors should be aware that the journey from Nairobi requires a significant drive, and the final access road to the venue is unpaved and rough, making it difficult for smaller, low-clearance sedans to navigate comfortably.

For those looking for a budget-friendly way to enjoy the local culture, explore the stalls of the local Maasai women stationed at the property; they offer authentic handmade merchandise at fair prices, which is a great way to support the community while finding unique souvenirs.

The Cost: There is generally no entry fee to access the grounds, making it an accessible spot for large gatherings. Typical meal costs for a group of four, including drinks and meat platters, range between KSH 5,000 and KSH 10,000 depending on your appetite and choice of beverages.

The Experience: The venue offers a relaxed, open-air environment perfect for long, lazy afternoons. The terrain is largely natural and rustic, so while the seating areas are spacious and comfortable, it is not a highly manicured resort; expect a casual, dusty, and authentic country atmosphere where you spend most of your time sitting, dining, and enjoying the breeze.

What you can get: Highlights include the signature wet fry, which is frequently praised, a refreshing swimming pool to escape the Kajiado heat, and a spacious environment ideal for hosting events. You will also find beautiful scenic vistas that are perfect for photography and a chance to interact with local Maasai artisans.

In summary, Olepolos is a fantastic destination for those who prioritize atmosphere and scenic views over fine-dining precision. While the service and meat quality can be hit-or-miss, the combination of the swimming pool, the stunning sunset vistas, and the spacious outdoor setting makes it a worthwhile escape from the city, provided you have the right vehicle to get there.

More Details

"Loved the place, amazing views and, Matthew gave us amazing service. I was over the moon when I found out you have a swimming pool there, it was amazing swimming considering the hot sun there. Our wet fry was very well done and delicious 👍, I however can't say the same about the choma, it was tough and our ribs weren't well done or seasoned. The samosas weren't seasoned at all not even salt." - Lela (Google Review)

Visited this place with friends. It was a long drive from Nairobi and we arrived late in the evening and unfortunately we dint get a chance to place order since there was no one to give us service. Accessing the property from the road could be difficult if you are driving a small car since the road is rough . The sitting area is great . If you are a sunset lover this is a great spot . In the same place there Masai ladies selling great machadise fairy priced . The sitting area is also big. If you are looking for a place away from town it's such a great place . It's kid friendly as well .

Everything You Need to Know About Discovering Kenya

As we move deeper into 2026, the definition of travel is evolving. No longer content with superficial sightings, the modern traveler seeks depth, purpose, and local engagement. This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
