Nana Swahili Restaurant is a charming, vibrant eatery nestled on Westlands Road, Nairobi, offering a cozy escape from the city hustle. Its inviting decor, characterized by colorful cushions and a warm, laid-back atmosphere, makes it a standout spot for authentic coastal-inspired dining. While access is straightforward via main roads, visitors should be aware that ongoing construction in the immediate vicinity can occasionally cause noise, though the interior remains a sanctuary of friendly service.
If you are looking for a more budget-conscious snack while in the Westlands area, consider stopping by one of the local bakeries or kiosks for a quick mandazi and spiced tea, which provides a similar flavor profile at a fraction of the cost of a full sit-down meal.
The Cost: Expect to spend between KES 800 and KES 2,000 per person for a satisfying meal. Prices are standard for a mid-range Nairobi restaurant, with breakfast items like the egg rolex being very affordable, while main courses like lamb chops or tilapia reflect the quality of the fresh ingredients used.
The Experience: Visiting Nana is a relaxed, stationary experience focused on comfort. The restaurant features a clean, accessible layout with comfortable seating, making it ideal for long lunches or casual breakfast meetings. The terrain is entirely flat and paved, ensuring easy access for all patrons.
What you can get: The menu is a love letter to Swahili cuisine, featuring highlights such as savory lamb chops with sauteed potatoes, rich tilapia in coconut sauce, traditional pilau, and mushroom cheese omelettes. Their beverage selection is equally unique, ranging from adventurous, tart tamarind juice to soothing cafe mochas and classic Indian tea.
Nana Swahili Restaurant manages to blend genuine hospitality with high-quality, homemade flavors. Despite the occasional external noise, the combination of excellent service and comforting, well-seasoned food makes it a reliable and highly recommended dining destination in the heart of Westlands.

Cute cozy cafe on westlands road. Sweet staff and overall a very positive vibe. We ordered the following and it was really good: 1. Egg Rolex - no you don't get the watch, you get the egg roll 2. Mushroom cheese omelette - was good. They added toast bread at an extra cost upon request 3. Cafe Mocha - was really good 4. Indian tea - was fine Overall, a good breakfast place for us

Really enjoyed my meals at Nana Swahili Restaurant. The food tastes homemade in the best way possible — rich flavors, well-seasoned dishes, and everything served hot and fresh. The staff is warm and welcoming, and you can feel the genuine Swahili hospitality from the moment you walk in. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and leave fully satisfied. Definitely a spot I’d recommend to anyone wanting real Swahili cuisine.

Very charming Swahili restaurant with a nice ambience and style with colorful cushions and friendly staff. I ordered the lamb chops with sauteed potatoes and mixed veggies. Very nice and tasty and well-presented. I ordered a tamarind juice to drink since I haven't tried it before. It had a very strong taste, so I think it would be a love-hate thing among people unfamiliar with it. I finished it off with a very nice chocolate milkshake that helped to soothe my mouth after the tamarind juice. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. I'd like to try the beef and fish options on a subsequent visit.

Very nice restaurant. We had tilapia in coconut and pilau. Both delicious. Only three star for ambiance because there was a lot of buzzing and metal sawing at the site next door but that’ll be done soon enough.
