Editor's Review

Kitengela Hot Glass is a surreal, artistic wonderland tucked away on the edge of the Nairobi National Park valley. Getting here is an adventure in itself, requiring a patient drive through the dusty, unpaved roads of Rongai, so plan for at least two hours of travel time from Nairobi city center. While the location is remote, the magical atmosphere of Nani's wonderland makes every bump in the road worth the effort.

If you are looking for a more low-key visit, the onsite museum and the scenic walk across the suspension bridge offer a fantastic, budget-friendly way to enjoy the valley views and unique outsider art without needing to book a formal glass-blowing workshop.

The Cost: Entry to the grounds is free, but participation in glass-blowing experiences typically ranges from KSH 3,000 to 7,000 depending on the project. Overnight stays in the cottages vary by season, and a hearty meal with drinks will generally set you back about KSH 2,000 per person.

The Experience: Visiting feels like stepping into a vibrant, mosaic-filled dream. The terrain is largely unpaved and rugged, requiring comfortable walking shoes to navigate the workshops and the bridge. Be prepared for high temperatures near the furnaces, which provide an intense but fascinating look at the glass-making process.

What you can get: You can get firsthand experience in glass blowing, a tour of the eclectic art gallery, and a chance to walk the iconic suspension bridge. The onsite restaurant is a highlight, specifically for their homemade ice cream, delicious croissants, and refreshing cocktails.

Ultimately, Kitengela Hot Glass is a must-visit for those who value creativity and off-grid exploration. While the logistics of the journey require a bit of grit, the combination of hot glass artistry, stunning valley vistas, and excellent hospitality creates an unforgettable Nairobi experience.

A wonderful place to be, exceeding our expectations. We did not look so much for the glass manufacturimg but took time for the museum and walking in the compound. The exhibition is great, the view into the valley from different positions is great. Also we crossed the bridge and enjoyed this adventure having a spectacular view all through this quiet and untouched area.

Kitengela Glass Studio is a beautiful and unique place to visit, with friendly staff and a truly magical atmosphere. We chose the package where you make two glass objects and shared it between the two of us - such a fun experience! We ended up making two really nice vases. Be prepared for the journey, though. Although it says 1 hour from Nairobi online, it took us over 2 hours. The last stretch of the road is very dusty and quite rough, and you may encounter traffic and even cows along the way. It’s absolutely worth the trip, but plan extra time and go with a bit of patience. All in all, a memorable experience and definitely recommended despite the challenging road.

Glass furnaces are way hotter than I thought. Absolutely fun times. The “scary bridge” is more like “bridge” Food was great. Especially the croissant. Access from Rongai will have you questioning every instruction you receive from Google Maps but we made it there eventually.

Our experience at the Kitengela Glass studio was everything we expected and so much more. Please make sure you book the catching light experience so you can make your own glassware, best time spent there. A visit to the wonderland illuminates the owners passion for art. Even better, book for an overnight stay and enjoy their hospitality. The cherry on top for us were the cocktails and the home-made ice cream!!! 🍦 😋 Heavenly!! Highly recommended as a must-visit in Nairobi. I'd definitely go back. Shout out to Elizabeth, Simon and Petronilla for the awesome service. You guys rock! PS: signage to the place could be better, easy to get lost.

Really intriguing place to visit. If you don't mind hot furnaces in a hot african climate.! Seriously though, the staff are super helpull and even someone as cack handed as me managed to make a decent tumbler and vase. The little restraunt serves good food too. A bit off the beaten track, if you haven't got a high off the ground car, take it slowly the last few miles tov the place.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience.
