Editor's Review

The Jockey Club of Kenya stands as a historic venue for horse racing and golf enthusiasts in Nairobi, offering a unique blend of sporting tradition. However, visitors should be aware of significant concerns regarding site security and administrative reliability, as recent reports have highlighted risks to personal safety and difficulties with event ticketing.

For those looking for a more secure outdoor experience nearby, the Nairobi Arboretum offers a safe, tranquil, and budget-friendly alternative for walking and picnicking, free from the logistical complications often associated with large-scale private event venues.

The Cost: Entry fees are event-specific, generally starting at KES 1,000 for general admission, with higher tiers for VIP or hospitality packages. Always insist on immediate digital confirmation of payments via M-Pesa.

The Experience: The venue features expansive, mostly flat terrain suitable for casual walking between the golf course and the racing tracks. It is an active, social environment that requires constant awareness of your surroundings due to the open nature of the grounds.

What you can get: You can expect a calendar of horse racing events, access to golf facilities, and various hospitality stations. The primary draw remains the thrill of the track and the social prestige of the racing circuit.

While the Jockey Club offers a distinct sporting atmosphere, the current operational and security challenges necessitate a high degree of caution. Visitors are advised to prioritize their safety and manage expectations regarding administrative services when planning a visit.

I purchased a ticket for the race that was on June 2nd, 2024. I never received a ticket via email or text message. So I reached out to them… they drug their feet when it came to sending me my ticket, that was paid for. When they finally did send it, a family member had ended up purchasing a ticket for me, so I asked them for a refund. They told me to wait 2 weeks for a refund. Here it is 2 weeks later and for the last 48 hours they’ve been giving me the run around on refunding my money back after stating that they would. They asked me to come to the next race and use the ticket for that. All I want is my money back lol. They then claimed that they sent the money… which is a lie… when they had literally just asked me to come to the upcoming race that is tomorrow just a minute before. They never sent a receipt of them “refunding” my money. Yet, I sent proof on my M-PESA transactions. It showed I didn’t receive this “refund” …they stopped responding after. I’ve been polite throughout this entire process and I honestly didn’t want to leave a negative review. But I’m not sure what else to do at this point. To run a business like this is insane and very disheartening. I feel this is very unprofessional… scamming is wild. I personally will never spend my money or support another event with them again.

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
