Editor's Review
Tucked away within the expansive Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) campus in Juja, the SAJOREC Botanical Garden serves as a serene, green sanctuary far removed from the urban intensity of Nairobi. While it is a hidden gem, visitors should be prepared for a bit of a walk once they enter the university gates to reach the garden site.
For those looking for a budget-friendly day out, the garden itself is the main attraction, but you can maximize your visit by exploring the wider university arboretum nearby, which offers similar tranquil walking paths at no extra cost to your entry fee.
The Cost: Entry is highly affordable, with student rates at KSH 50 per person. It is advisable to carry cash or have M-Pesa ready for any nominal entry fees, as formal ticketing systems may be informal.
The Experience: Visiting feels like stepping into a quiet, living laboratory. The terrain consists of a mix of manicured walking trails and some natural, unpaved paths that require comfortable walking shoes. It is a slow-paced environment perfect for gentle strolls, nature photography, or sitting on the grass for a long, peaceful hangout with friends.
What you can see: The garden features a diverse collection of indigenous trees, medicinal plants, and stunning water lily ponds that are the highlight of the grounds. It also offers open lawn spaces perfect for wedding receptions or group picnics amidst a backdrop of well-tended ornamental flora.
Final Verdict: While the infrastructure is currently showing signs of age and could benefit from better management, the SAJOREC Botanical Garden remains an unmatched, low-cost retreat for anyone needing a breath of fresh air and a quiet space to reconnect with nature.

I love this place. It's so quiet and it has such magnificent sights. I took many pictures. I recommend to someone that would like to have a picnic or just a hangout session with friends to check it out. It's also very budget friendly. For students It's just Ksh50 per person. You will love it🙂↕️. And also, you might want to carry some water. It can get really thirsty😅.
