Editor's Review

El Boran Hotel in Isiolo serves as a sprawling, multipurpose destination that functions as both a retreat center and a local social hub. While it offers impressive conference facilities capable of hosting over 1,000 people, visitors should be aware that the final access road from the tarmac is unpaved and can be challenging for low-clearance vehicles when it rains.

For those looking to keep costs down, the hotel’s expansive green gardens offer a peaceful, low-cost alternative to the more expensive spa or pool activities, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed afternoon with a book or a casual walk.

The Cost: While specific gate fees vary, expect to pay a premium for swimming access compared to local standards. A full meal with drinks typically ranges from KSH 800 to KSH 1,500 per person depending on your choice of nyama choma or standard menu items.

The Experience: Visiting El Boran is about balancing productivity with leisure. The grounds are largely flat and navigable, making them accessible for team-building drills and group movement. The infrastructure is built for scale, though the swimming area is better suited for adults than young children due to depth concerns.

What you can get: You can access a wide array of amenities including professional conference halls, a refreshing swimming pool, a dedicated kids' play park, a full-service spa for relaxation, and a well-regarded restaurant serving high-quality grilled meats.

Overall, El Boran is a reliable, all-in-one facility that works best for organized groups and families who value space and convenience over proximity to the town center. Despite the access road limitations, the quality of the food and the sheer scale of the grounds make it a top contender in the region.

More Details

"Adequate halls with enough roo space to accommodate more than 1000 persons. Well ventilated. Friendly lighting. All in one facilities, from gift shop, kids play spaces, spa, hotel, conference facilities, excellent outdoor facilities. Ideal is the word. Except that a small stretch of the access road is not in a good condition." - norah karimi (Google Review)

Explorer Ken's Advice

"Skip the main dining hall and head straight for the choma station; their grilled meat is widely considered the best item on the menu."

Heads Up

Things to Consider

The final stretch of the access road is unpaved and becomes difficult to navigate during the rainy season, so proceed with caution.

It's an amazing place, cool environment, excellent green garden. Swimming pool not that much in condition and one made for kids too deep not suitable for under 6 yrs. Food,I enjoyed their choma is amazing. Price wise swimming is a little expensive but food and drinks is fine. The small road leading to the place from tarmac is in bad condition mostly during rainy season.

Everything You Need to Know About Discovering Kenya

As we move deeper into 2026, the definition of travel is evolving. No longer content with superficial sightings, the modern traveler seeks depth, purpose, and local engagement. This guide is curated to help you navigate the diverse ecosystems of Kenya—from our high-altitude massifs to our hidden coastal creek retreats and exclusive conservation-first conservancies.

  • Vetted 2026 Travel Rates & Tips
  • Sustainable & Carbon-Neutral Stays
  • Exclusive Hidden Gem Itineraries

The Wild Heart of the Savannah

In 2026, the best safari isn't the one with the most lion sightings; it's the one in a private conservancy where you're the only vehicle for miles. The Maasai Mara, Samburu, and Tsavo remain the cornerstone of any Kenyan journey. We recommend focusing on the conservancies where private concessions limit vehicle numbers, ensuring a truly intimate encounter with the Great Migration and the rare Northern Species like the Grevy's zebra.

Coastal Serenity & Marine Magic

From the white sands of Watamu to the mystical lanes of Lamu Old Town, the Kenyan coast offers a blend of Swahili heritage and marine biodiversity. 2026 sees a massive surge in kitesurfing and ocean-to-plate dining experiences that prioritize small-scale local fishermen. Discover Diani for world-class luxury and Kilifi for the artistic soul.

The High-Altitude Challenge

Kenya's mountains offer some of the most rigorous and rewarding trekking in Africa. Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and the various escarpments of the Rift Valley go beyond the typical safari experience. As the lead authority in Kenyan hiking, we provide essential data on trail conditions, elevation gain, and the best-vetted local guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment.
